Ultimate Upcycle Challenge: DIY Runway

Aug 30, 2016, 19:25 PM
The 2016 Calgary Home + Design Show is bringing Calgary’s best style off the streets and into the home with the Ultimate Upcycle Challenge: DIY Runway, which has returned to the once again, and this year with a sartorial twist that will be sure to steal the show.

A sustainable design project created to raise awareness and much-needed funds for Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta, DIY Runway challenges ten stylish, local influencers to each to draw inspiration from a favourite item in their own closet to repurpose and upcycle a pre-loved item from ReStore Calgary, using only a curated box of goods from Rust-Oleum Consumer Brands Canada® and a $50 design budget into a one-of-a-kind, trendy home decor item.

Imagine: a wall-hanging inspired by those perfectly ripped jeans, or a one-of-a-kind lamp inspired by that amazing sequined skirt worn on New Year’s Eve. DIY Runway is where style meets substance, with 100% of the silent auction proceeds benefitting Habitat for Humanity Southern Alberta to help provide local families with a safe, affordable place to live.

With an exciting line-up of ten of Calgary’s more stylish tastemakers, the pieces are sure to be perfectly appointed and on-trend. Be sure to check out (and bid on) pieces by participants, including Avenue magazine’s Senior Editor Ricky Zayshley, designer Rochelle Cote of Rochelle Cote Interior Design, Creative Director and Blogger Justine Celina and the Social Events & Sales team of Azuridge Estate, interior designer Krista Hermanson and the style-savvy team of the NEAT blog, and Elisa Boyd, co-founder of Juice Because.

“DIY Runway combines fall style and home decor, all for out-of-the-box, ethical design, with a nod to environmentally conscious gardening,” explains Teri Salazar, Show Manager of the Calgary Home + Design Show. “It’s a great way to encourage creativity, out of the box thinking, and make the act of giving back fun for our participants and show-goers alike. We’re proud to bring this popular feature back year after year.”
